Chilly Day!

Today we woke up to a rather chilly morning.  I convinced Trevan that he HAD to wear his coat and hat to school.  Told him they require proper attire to be able to go to recess.  So, reluctantly he agreed.  We got them all dressed and over breakfast we had a couple visitors.  We heard rattling outside the dining room window and we looked out to see 2 fat squirrels peeking in the window!  The boys got such a kick out of it.  We then went out and looked up in the trees to find many, many more!

Yesterday was Taylor's 21st Birthday.  It was a bittersweet day for me.  I can't believe he is 21.  As all young folks who turn this age he was obsessed with his ability to go and purchase alcohol.  Thinking he may want to order his first legal drink in a restaurant I took he and Trenton to lunch at Applebee's.  I told him he could order a beer.  He did not want to do that - as he said he felt awkward.

When we left he wanted to go to the gas station and buy a large beer.  We had a bit of a battle over this and I agreed to allow him to have a mixed drink with us at the house instead after dinner.  I made a nice dinner of BBQ Lil Smokies, Cheesy Potatoes and Caramel Apple Salad.  We then had Strawberry Cheesecake to celebrate.  The night went off pretty well with no major problems.  We had our celebratory cocktail of Cherry Rum with Diet Coke - then off to bed.  The alcohol went with ME and is well hidden!

I remain a bit guarded with him given his history.  I just pray that this milestone in his life will not be a path to more self destruction and pain for our family.  I pray that with this coming of age he has matured a bit as well.  All I can do is HOPE.

On a lighter note - SHE arrived tonight!  Our "KitchenMaid" as Trevan calls it.  My Christmas Present - my long awaited Auqa Blue Kitchen Aid.  I am so thrilled to own one after all these years!  Of course the guilt is setting in as I purchased this with Christmas Money that was given to me to spend on myself; BEFORE I found out Stace will not get his first paycheck for 3 weeks!  I should have used the money on presents for my kids.  Not sure if I can make it up the the boys by BAKING them Christmas Gifts?  We shall see if this flies!  Tomorrow I will be making White Chocolate Cupcakes with Peppermint Butter Cream Frosting!  Yum!

My mom ordered me a set of Canisters for a Christmas Gift.  I can't believe they arrived already!  She just placed the order the day before yesterday!

Well, off to bed for me.  I am really tired!  I got the pleasure of schlepping BOTH Taylor and Trenton in and out of Antique Stores and Thrift Stores today.  I could not believe how much they enjoyed bargain hunting!  We were searching for night stands and dressers.  It is really nice that Taylor can get out in public and not feel so anxious!  :o)  Made my day!

XOXO
Janean
